Your Direct Bookings Can Earn You More
Why we're launching in person, in Miami, and what it means for how much your direct bookings can actually earn you
We are launching Hotelia in person, in Miami, on September 16th and 17th, on purpose. Before I tell you why, I want to tell you what this means for your hotel.
Independent hotel owners already know the value of a direct booking. You are not paying an OTA 15-25% just for the privilege of someone finding your hotel online. You built your own website, you have a booking engine, and every reservation that comes through it is one you keep more of. That instinct was right from the beginning.
But here is the part nobody is talking about. A direct booking is not just a transaction you kept for yourself. It is an opportunity you have not fully used yet.
Think about what happens after someone books directly on your site. In most cases, nothing happens. The booking confirms, a confirmation email goes out, and the guest shows up on their arrival date exactly as anonymous as the moment they clicked confirm. You had them for one interaction, and you used it only to take a payment.
That is the gap Hotelia was built to close.
The upsell you should be selling
Most add-ons in the hotel industry are the same three things. Early check-in. Late checkout. Parking. Useful, sure. But not memorable, and definitely not personal.
Real personalization comes from actually knowing who is staying with you. A business traveler wants a desk that works, a monitor, strong WiFi, and coffee delivered before their first call. A couple celebrating an anniversary does not want a generic room upgrade email. They want something that tells them you already know why they are there.
When a hotel offers the right add-on to the right guest, at the right moment, two things happen at once. The guest feels like the stay was designed around them, and your hotel keeps one hundred percent of that additional revenue, because it happened through your own direct channel, not a third party's.
That is what we built into Hotelia's booking engine. Customizable add-ons through Revenue Builder that hotels can shape around their actual guests, not a generic checklist. It is a small design choice with a large effect. It turns a direct booking from something you merely kept, into something you actively grew.
And the margin stays exactly where it belongs. With you. To reinvest in your property, your team, and the community you are part of.
Why personalization and profit are not opposites
There is a temptation in hospitality technology to treat automation and warmth as if they are on opposite ends of a scale. As if the more efficient a hotel becomes, the less human it feels.
I do not believe that, and I never have.
The hotel owners I built Hotelia for are some of the most detail oriented, thoughtful, and hardworking people I know. They care about how a lobby feels. They care about the water pressure in the shower. They care about knowing who is arriving to their hotel. That level of care is not something software replaces. It is something software should protect, by taking the repetitive weight off their shoulders so that energy can go toward the guest standing in front of them.
That belief runs through everything in Hotelia, not just the add-ons. Daily check-ins and checkouts, housekeeping status, team communication, and hotel performance reporting, all of it lives in one platform, so an owner is not stitching together five different logins just to understand how their own hotel is doing that day. The less time spent managing systems, the more time is left over for the part of the job that actually matters, the guest experience.
Personalization should not just be a buzzword. It should be practical, visible, and it should make money for the hotel doing it well. That is the whole premise.
Hotelia was built to be accessible
Boutique hotel owners are creative people running lean teams, not IT departments. Hotelia is built so a hotel can sign up and start taking direct bookings almost immediately, with no long implementation and no steep learning curve.
And the control stays with the owner the whole way through. You decide how much or how little to automate, how many add-ons to offer, and how hands on or hands off you want to be day to day. Hotelia supports whichever way you want to run your hotel. It does not force one way of operating onto every property. It gives you the tools, and you decide how to use them.
Why Miami and why in person
We could have launched Hotelia with a press release and a landing page update. Instead, we are doing it in person, over two days, at the Miami Beach Convention Center, on September 16th and 17th.
That choice is personal, and I want to explain why.
After years working across Marriott brand hotels, I knew there had to be an easier way to run a property, one that didn't mean juggling five disconnected systems just to get through a shift. Later, as an Airbnb customer experience advocate and host myself, I saw the other side of it too, and I knew there had to be a way for operators to have more control over their own guest experience and their own bottom line.
Hotelia was born out of watching front desk teams juggle too many disconnected systems, at the expense of the guest standing right in front of them. I wanted to build something that gave that time back.
So launching in Miami is not a convenient venue choice. It is a return to South Beach, the stretch of coastline where I first watched independent hotel owners build something entirely their own, and where the idea for Hotelia first took shape. We are bringing it back there, and introducing it to the room in person.
What launch week actually looks like
On September sixteenth and seventeenth, we will be live in Miami with real demos, our own booth to host you in. If you are an independent or boutique hotel owner, you can come see exactly how the booking engine and the add-ons work, ask questions in person, and meet the team building it.
We are also opening a launch week offer, 25% off annual subscriptions for new hotels who join us during the event.
If you cannot be in Miami, the countdown is already live on hotelia.io. Leave your name and email, and you will be the first to know the moment we go live.
The part that matters most
Here is what I want every independent hotel owner reading this to take away, whether we meet in Miami or not. A direct booking on your website is already a win. What Hotelia adds is the next step, turning that direct booking into a moment where the guest feels genuinely taken care of, and your hotel earns more from it, without giving up any of the margin that makes independent ownership worth it in the first place.
It is the same belief that started this company, and it is the same belief we are bringing to Miami this September.
Because when someone books directly with your hotel, it is not just a transaction. It is the start of a relationship. Hotelia exists to help you make the most of it, from the first click to the moment they walk through your door, and every stay after that.
We will see you in Miami.
